Drumraney N.S. is an inclusive school where the participation and opinions of all pupils are valued. We are a small two-teacher rural school with twenty pupils in total. We refer to ourselves as “The Small School with the Big Heart”.
This year, the pupils from Junior Infants to 6th Class, took part in the ‘Someone Like Me’ project. This is a competition sponsored by the Department of Justice and Equality aimed at promoting positive attitudes towards disability in schools and celebrating difference. The Junior and Senior rooms completed the relevant lessons.
The children discussed how we each have unique personality traits, qualities, strengths, limitations, interests and abilities but that we all have an equally valid and important contribution to make to our school and the wider world.
Like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, we are all very different but we fit together perfectly to make one complete picture. The children designed various jigsaw pieces about ‘What makes a good friend?’ Here you can see how their individual jigsaw pieces look so great as a collaborative display. The children really enjoyed taking part in the ‘Someone Like Me’ project.
